Meeting to Consider Public Safety Concerns In Hastings CBD
A meeting is to be held tomorrow evening over public safety concerns in Hastings CBD.
Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule says “We have a great CBD that continues to prosper but it is essential that the public feels that they are safe when visiting the area. It appears that a small group of youths is causing safety concerns for the public and this must not be allowed to continue.”
Lawrence Yule says “CBD retailers, Police and council staff have been invited to the public meeting, in an attempt to identify strategies which will help make the area safer for everyone.”
“A number of excellent initiatives have been signalled for the CBD which will make it even more attractive for visitors and locals. Council is in the process of identifying and training a number of ambassadors who will work in the central shopping area. Their main responsibility will be to answer any queries that shoppers and visitors may have and they will also be another set of eyes as far as safety is concerned. A night market begins in summer and I am sure this will add to the colour and vibrancy of the CBD.”
“Once William Nelson Park is officially opened early next month, a zero tolerance policy towards skateboards in the CBD could be reintroduced .The skatepark is a state of the art facility and we need to encourage skateboarders to move from the CBD to this facility.”
“Public safety is paramount in everything that Council does and I hope that the public meeting proves to be a successful launching pad for initiatives which will erase some of the concerns which have been voiced over public safety in Hastings CBD,” Mr Yule says.
The public meeting is to be held in the Hastings District Council Chambers, starting at 7pm on Wednesday 18th September 2013.
