All Black Test Fires up Eden Park

All Black Test Fires up Eden Park

A cool night partially contributed to the spike in electricity demand on Saturday night when the All Blacks took on the Springboks at Eden Park.

However, some of the surge was driven by the powerful stadium lighting and, when added to all of the other lighting necessary to run the venue, along with the food and beverage outlets, it’s easy to see the change in the demand pattern on game night.

NETWORK SUMMARY for week 15 September 2013

ELECTRICITY
There was one car vs pole and car vs pillar incidents in Three Kings and Remuera respectively last week. Repairs were made quickly in both instances.
Our crews were called out to a building in Auckland’s Quay Street to isolate power and make the area safe while The Fire Service attended a fire. Another four premises in Takanini, Glen Eden, Henderson and Massey, affected by fire, were also made safe by our crews.
A tree branch came down onto power lines in Clevedon just before midnight last week, causing a power outage. Our crews worked on the fault and full power was restored to the area in the early hours of the morning.

GAS
A smell of gas was reported in Beach Road, Auckland and in Whangarei during the week and contractors struck gas pipes in Auckland’s St Heliers while carrying out work.

PROJECTS

Twenty new power poles were placed in position on steep and rugged terrain at remote Bethells Beach this week. On the ground, Vector contractors worked hard to ensure the poles were positioned correctly and clipped firmly onto a giant rope while in the air, a helicopter carefully lifted them off the ground and transported them over the estuary to the hills above the beach. There, they were dropped into the prepared holes. The work is part of a major pole and overhead conductor replacement project in the area, which will see new power poles and lines in place for local residents. Work will continue throughout September.
