New appointments at Grant Thornton New Zealand
Grant Thornton New Zealand Ltd is thrilled to announce the appointment of two new associates, Brayden Smith, Associate,
Audit and Shashi Kumar as Associate Director, Business Risk.
Brayden Smith is a Chartered Accountant (CA) of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and moves to Grant
Thornton from a Big 4 accountancy firm where he has worked for the last 19 years. During his career he has worked with a
large cross section of clients in both public and private companies, across an extensive range of sectors, including
manufacturing, retail, oil and gas, Not for Profit (including health, education, Iwi and arts), transport and logistics,
banking and finance.
Brayden has a detailed understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and an extensive
understanding of best practice controls and processes.
Shashi Kumar is a Chartered Accountant (CA) of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, Fellow (F Fin) of the
Financial Services Institute of Australasia. She has experience across a range of industries including financial
services, commerce, education and the public and Not for Profit sectors.
Shashi has had extensive involvement in governance, risk and compliance (GRC), including internal audit, fraud
investigation, operational risk management, business continuity and resilience, financial and strategic risk reporting,
and strategic planning.
She is a mentor in the FINSIA 2013 mentoring programme, a registered mentor for NZICA and a chairperson of the Auckland
Women Accountants Group (NZICA). She also presents at and contributes regularly to risk management, performance and
business improvement industry conferences.
Shashi is a board member at Affinity Services and Literacy Waitakere and a member of their respective risk and finance
subcommittees.
