Small Business Development Group welcomes Single Business Number
The Government-appointed Small Business Development Group welcomes the Government’s announcement today about the
introduction of the New Zealand Business Number, says Group Convenor, Tenby Powell.
Mr Powell said that both the current group and their predecessor the Small Business Advisory Group had been extensively
consulted by agencies working on the project.
“We are thrilled that the voice of small business owners has been listened to, and that this policy, recommended in the
last group report to government in 2012, is coming to fruition.
“This has been important to small business owners for a long time, because we want to be out there doing what we do best
– running our businesses and growing the economy – rather than losing precious time in transactions with government.
This initiative will make interactions with government much more efficient, eventually allowing firms to provide
information at a single secure point to reduce needless repetition each time a firm deals with a different agency.
“This will help small firms connect to government services and compliance systems with much more ease, and will
ultimately serve to make us more productive and globally competitive” Mr Powell said.
The Small Business Development Group advises government on issues affecting SMEs and helps government agencies
communicate more effectively with them. More information is available here.
