Our first medal at the New Zealand Beer Awards

Our first medal at the New Zealand Beer Awards

We are exceptionally proud to announce that Fork & Brewer has won its first medal at the Brewers Guild New Zealand Beer Awards (sponsored by Craftology). There were a record 541 entries this year and the 24 expert judges awarded 41 gold medals, 50 silver medals and 91 bronze medals. One of the bronze medals in the Wheat and Other Grains Styles category (sponsored by the good people at Beer and Brewer magazine) went to Fork & Brewer Storm Chaser – the Fork’s first medal at our first Beer Awards.

Naturally, the entire team is very proud of brewer Lester Dunn for this effort and he seemed quite pleased to be recognised by a prestigious panel of international and domestic beer judges. It is also his first solo brew to win a medal. The Fork & Brewer already has ambitious plans for next year’s awards.

Fork & Brewer Storm Chaser is a new beer and the very first batch was entered into the Awards. The beer is based on the classic German Dunkelweizen (dark wheat beer) style with a bit of a twist. There are notes of juicy banana, caramel, bubble gum and spice, before a dry finish. It was paired with dessert at our recent degustation dinner though it is a very versatile drop in terms of food and also great on its own. Given the medal success, Storm Chaser is likely to be seen more often at the Fork, particularly during the cooler months.
