Soda Company Scoops First New Producer Award
A Wellington central city company, who makes specialty sodas from local ingredients by hand, has taken out the category of New Producer of the Year Award at the inaugural MiNDFOOD Producer Awards.
Angela Brownie, festival co-director and Grow Wellington’s general manager for business growth, says the win is a great achievement for a local small business.
“It’s of great value for a Wellington producer to have this recognition in place when starting to enter into export markets,” says Ms Brownie.
“The new producer awards as a whole recognise and celebrate the craft and diversity of Wellington region food and beverage producers,” says Miss Brownie. “They are to become an important dimension of the Visa Wellington On a Plate festival.”
The MiNDFOOD Producer of the Year Award went to Bees Blessing in Upper Hutt with runner-up producer awarded to another Newtown business, Carrello del Gelato. Best Sustainability Award went to Kingsmeade Artisan Cheese in the Wairarapa.
Six Barrel Soda Co. on Eva Street in Wellington city is owned by Joseph Slater and makes sodas with seasonal flavours by hand using all natural ingredients.
The producer awards aim to recognise the best of the Wellington region’s producers and bring their products to a wider audience during the popular Visa Wellington On a Plate festival, says Michael McHugh, Editor-in-chief of award sponsors MiNDFOOD.
