July 2013 Monthly traffic update

July 2013 Monthly traffic update

6.7%International passenger volumes (excluding transit passengers) at Auckland Airport were up 6.7% versus July 2012. The passenger growth was driven by American (+23.0%), Tran-Tasman (+7.8%) and Asian (+4.3%) routes. The international passenger growth (particularly on Trans-Tasman routes) was boosted by the full school holiday period falling in July in 2013 (it partly fell in June in 2012). Traffic to/from Americas was once again driven by travel to/from Hawaii which grew by more than 6,000 passengers. Chinese, Malaysian and Hong Kong routes drove the Asian growth.
6.0%Domestic passengers at Cairns Airport were up 6.0% in July 2013. Over the last 12 months Cairns has consistently recorded growth in domestic passengers. Domestic passengers at Mackay Airport struggled in comparison down 2.2%, impacted by the mining down-turn in Australia and the subsequent reduction in travel to mining areas. International passengers (excluding transit passengers) at Cairns Airport were also down in July 2013. The 2.9% decrease was due to service reductions on routes to/from New Zealand and capacity reductions on Hong Kong services.
19.3%International passengers at Queenstown Airport in July 2013 were up 19.3% on July 2012 to 44,272. This is the most international passengers that Queenstown has ever had in a single month. The passenger increase was on the back of a 21% increase in international landings and strong loadings on international flights.23.6%Continuing recent trends, visitor arrivals from China again performed strongly with Chinese arrivals up 23.6% in July 2013, however we also saw strong performances from traditional Northern Hemisphere markets with visitor arrivals from the United Kingdom (+24.9%), Germany (+15.6%) and the United States (+12.9%) all significantly outperforming 12 month trends.
