Fresh air forests will grow a better future
A local Hawke’s Bay couple have just launched a new service Fresh Air Forests to enable travellers, businesses,
landowners and people from ... anywhere, to measure and counteract the effects of transport, travel and accommodation –
nature’s way, with trees.
Fresh Air Forests directors Colin and Wendy Pirie are big on sustainability and biodiversity, a message which comes loud
and clear from their eco-home and business operation in Maraekakaho.
Fresh Air Forests provide traceability of plantings and you are able to locate the planting sites in Google Maps. There
will be follow up biodiversity reporting of the planting sites.
Fresh Air Forests key focus is about environmental balance and living sustainably to improve business, home life and the
planet.
Colin Pirie has a strong background in sustainable business and land care management, including indigenous regeneration
projects, erosion prevention, wetland development and native forests.
“We are serious about making a difference, now and in the future,” says Colin, “so the idea of pledging trees to create
a native forest made a lot of sense.”
“Anyone who pledges to a Fresh Air Forest will get a certificate of purchase, tree plot coordinates and updates on their
selected site as it grows. We choose our sites carefully, working closely with landowners, iwi, schools and local
authorities to create a long-term ecological heritage for a whole community to enjoy.”
Fresh Air Forests’ launches with two ‘growing’ sites at Lake Waikopiro and on Mount Kahuranaki in sunny Hawke’s Bay. All
Fresh Air Forests are on retired and protected land, in place for generations ahead to enjoy.
