Ngati Pahauwera Development Trust announces the recent appointment of Wayne Johnson as General Manager.
Following the recent substantive settlement of Treaty claims, Ngati Pahauwera Development Trust has started to build
their infrastructure through the appointment of a General Manager.
Ngati Pahauwera Trust Chairperson, Toro Waaka said, “We are fortunate to have appointed Mr Wayne Johnson as our General
Manager. There is a great match between the Wayne’s skills and knowledge and what the iwi were looking for. Wayne has a
background in law and business that will help him bring fruition to our focus on infrastructure development and a strong
base from which to deliver benefits to our 8,000 registered members.”
Mr Waaka goes on to say, “Wayne has already shaken things up by securing more suitable premises in Wairoa to announce
that Ngati Pahauwera is open for business. He has a really good understanding of the systems and the means to deliver
responsive services to people through his work with the Whanganui River Maori Trust Board, Te Runanga o Te Awa Tupua o
Whanganui, Ratana and other iwi organisations. He is a real people person and brings a wealth of networks and support
that will benefit Ngati Pahauwera.”
Wayne Johnson said, “I am keen to ensure that we have really strong two way communication and engagement with our
whanau, hapu and iwi. I want to make sure that we are delivering on the development that they want to see, rather than
what we think they want”. When pressed about his outside interests Mr Johnson said, ”A pet interest of mine is
indigenous intellectual property. I do have a creative side that I have enjoyed expressing through being involved in the
production of Songs from the Inside, Behind the Brush and Te Matatini, sharing our songs and stories with others. “
Ngati Pahauwera Chair Toro Waka said, “Wayne has Wairoa origins and an enthusiasm and passion to help his community. His
business acumen, innovative and positive approach to solutions is a real asset to where Ngati Pahauwera is today. Wayne
will have an opportunity to meet formally with our members at our information sharing hui on Sunday 25th August and to
present as General Manager at our Hui A Iwi or Annual General Meeting on 15th September at Waipapa A Iwi Marae, Mohaka.
