Fonterra Welcomes
Joint Ministerial Inquiry
Fonterra today welcomed the New Zealand Government’s confirmation that it will conduct a Joint Ministerial Inquiry into the whey protein concentrate incident.
Fonterra Chief Executive, Theo Spierings, said, “We look forward to assisting the inquiry and will provide the panel all the information they need to do a thorough job.”
Fonterra also has two inquiries underway. The first is an internal operational review called by Mr Spierings and led by Group Director of Strategy, Maury Leyland. It began last week and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.
The Co-operative’s Board of Directors has initiated an independent inquiry looking into the circumstances leading up to the contamination of whey protein concentrate (WPC80) and the subsequent chain of events.
“We are determined to learn from what happened and make any changes needed to ensure this does not happen again,” Mr Spierings said.
“We want to do everything we can to make sure our farmers, customers, governments, unit holders, and the general public have full confidence in Fonterra and our products.”
