Auckland Airport Domestic Terminal upgrade
Auckland Airport has commenced the next phase of the $29 million upgrade of its domestic terminal building. The upgrade will ease growth pressures and mean faster and more efficient travel journeys for passengers.
Peter Alexander, Auckland Airport’s acting general manager airport development and delivery, says the upgrade will provide passengers with improved gate access, baggage collection and toilets; as well as faster security screening, a new regional lounge and two new air-bridges.
“The upgrade will be completed by June 2014. It will improve our domestic terminal’s ability to cater for the increasing number of larger aircraft, and will reduce the congestion currently experienced in several parts of the terminal.  It will also ensure that we can efficiently and effectively process passengers while a long term solution is worked on for the domestic terminal.”
Earlier this year Auckland Airport completed improvements to the forecourt area of the domestic terminal. The forecourt changes have improved traffic flows and parking, increased pedestrian safety and provided covered canopies in the public drop off area.
“This next phase of improvements will be largely focused on the interior of the domestic terminal. We will be working hard to ensure that while the upgrade is being undertaken there is minimal disruption to the travelling public,” says Mr Alexander.
Further information about the domestic terminal improvements is available online at aucklandairport.co.nz or from airport staff inside the domestic terminal.
