Security Technology Alliance to Create a New High Growth Industry For New Zealand and Significant Export Growth
Opportunities
Wellington, 13 August 2013 – Innovative New Zealand-based high growth technology companies, Gallagher, Tait Communications, Wynyard Group and
Endace, have come together to form the Security Technology Alliance (STA), a compelling new security proposition for
global markets.
The companies that all have a proven track record of success and traction in global markets, together deliver different
advanced solutions for managing criminal intelligence, cyber security, mission critical communications and physical
security.
STA spokesperson Craig Richardson says that the STA has brought together successful technology companies to create a new
high-growth and high-value industry category for New Zealand which will increase New Zealand’s security capability and
help create a value driven economy.
“The STA is a focused and well-supported initiative aimed at expanding New Zealand’s security industry, capability and
export earnings. Our companies complement each other’s strengths and joining forces creates a compelling new global
market proposition in this high growth market.
“It’s these types of initiatives, in a hi-tech category that has the potential for significantly increasing export
earnings, which will lift New Zealand’s profile as a country that is known for its technology and not just its cows and
campervans.
“This is a research and development intensive, growing industry for New Zealand, that will attract new capital
investment and also create and keep highly skilled technology workers here in New Zealand,” says Richardson.
The STA recently opened an office in Washington DC and has appointed former Department of Homeland Security Assistant
Secretary for The Office for State and Local Law Enforcement, Mr Louis F. Quijas to the position of Senior Vice
President Strategic Ventures.
Mr Quijas will promote the alliance capability globally and says that New Zealand is already recognised and respected
for the important contribution its companies make internationally to the sector.
“There is a significant global market for security services and the STA will allow more New Zealand companies to create
opportunities in global markets. Collectively the STA offering is world class and this is also why we want to promote
New Zealand’s broader expertise and leverage the combined capability internationally,” says Mr Quijas.
Mr Quijas says that the STA serves as a critical conduit for global markets to access New Zealand security technology
and with a growing membership it will provide global clients with an easy way to access a portfolio of trusted
technology companies operating in the security sector.
“New Zealand has an important role to play globally in disrupting trans-national crime and corruption and the STA
provides a platform for global markets to leverage alternative technology options as well as empowering New Zealand to
increase its share of export revenues from this growing sector.”
All STA members have been well supported by the New Zealand Government, including through New Zealand Trade and
Enterprise and the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment, which have supported the establishment of the STA as
well as individual companies with research and development grants, getting technology to different export markets, and
in-market advice.
While the STA has four recognised foundation members, the STA collaboration agreement allows for other qualified, export
focused New Zealand security technology companies to join the alliance.
