Rachel Smalley Joins Newstalk ZB
The Radio Network’s Newstalk ZB has signed TV3 senior broadcast journalist Rachel Smalley to host a new breakfast programme called Early Edition, which will air between 5-6am, leading into the top-rating Mike Hosking Breakfast. Early Edition will provide a fast-paced news focused programme.
“Early Edition will be a premium show for Newstalk ZB,” says Dallas Gurney, General Manager of Talk Programming for The Radio Network. “Peoples’ work patterns are changing requiring them to be up earlier than a few years ago. This show is designed to give them all the information they need to start the day.”
Gurney says early breakfast shows are trending internationally.
“There are now are as many people listening to Newstalk ZB at 5:30 in the morning as at 4:30 in the afternoon, this programme will better serve the needs of the early morning information seeker.”
He expects the show to also be popular with the farming community.
Smalley is the current host of TV3’s early morning week day news programme Firstline and in-depth live current affairs and political debate programme on a Saturday morning The Nation. She originally began her journalism career with the Radio Network.
