Workplace health & safety

Workplace health & safety

Stephanie Grieve, a health and safety specialist lawyer at Duncan Cotterill, is urging all businesses – large or small – to scrutinize their workplace health and safety systems. This is in light of the Working Safer reforms, announced by the Government today.

Businesses who actively review their risks, and who currently have safety procedures in place to eliminate those risks, are unlikely to have any problems with the new regime. But everyone who is in charge of a workplace will need to review their current health and safety practices to ensure that they comply with the new regime.

She says the Government is still considering whether to extend the existing manslaughter offence, to include companies, is still under consideration.

The Christchurch rebuild will be a key focus – both in terms of education and enforcement.
