Restaurant given ‘all clear’ but still closed for third day following Sunday’s earthquake
Wellington restaurant Arbitrageur is closed for its third day since Sunday’s quake. Located on Featherston Street in the
CBD, it was one of the areas cordoned off due to loose masonry.
“Our building structure has been given an ‘all clear’ in the latest engineers report, it’s just the loose plaster on the
building’s exterior that needs to be secured,” says restaurant owner and chef Chris Green.
“Although it’s not great for business, what’s most important is that no one was hurt.
“In fact, nothing in the restaurant was broken, not even a bottle of wine!” Green says.
“We appreciate that the inspectors, engineers and Council are so thorough, as human safety is of course paramount,” says
Green.
Green says that he hopes people won’t consider Arbitrageur to be unsafe when it is merely the building façade that needs
to be secured.
“Council are putting scaffolding, and netting in place this afternoon to secure the loose masonry.
“We’re thankful for the patience and kind messages from our customers, and look forward to opening our doors again in
the next day or so,” says Green.
