Kiwi Travellers Expanding Horizons
The latest travel statistics from Flight Centre, New Zealand’s largest travel retailer, show that Kiwi’s are expanding their horizons when it comes to international travel with Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil and Samoa reporting the top booking increases in June 2013, compared to same month of the previous year.
Flight Centre New Zealand’s managing director, Mike Friend, says that the increase in travel to these destinations is because of a combination of factors, including affordability and accessibility.
Flight Centre will be holding a dedicated Travel Expo on Sunday, 11 August with a focus on Asia, South America, North America, USA, Hawaii, the South Pacific and Australia, and is picking it to be a huge hit with Kiwi travellers because of the current trends.
“Kiwis still love travelling to Australia and the Pacific Islands, however the latest information confirms they are looking for diversity when it comes to international travel. Samoa is a great example of this because it’s an excellent alternative to the usual Fiji or Cook Islands beach break and we have seen almost a 90 percent increase in bookings,” Mr Friend said.
“Because of the remote location of New Zealand, accessibility is crucial when it comes to travelling somewhere new. The direct services being offered by Air New Zealand to Indonesia is testament to this, backed by a booking increase of almost 110 percent year on year. The new services that were introduced last year really opened up a new destination to Kiwis.
“We are expecting these destinations to be hugely popular at Travel Expo, where we have worked with the travel industry’s leading airlines, tour operators, cruise lines, wholesalers and tourism boards to bring the latest travel options together all under one roof.”
The Expo will be held at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland on 11 August 2013 and will include exclusive flight specials to Asia, the Americas, South Pacific and Australia, along with some of the best holiday options in 2013.
“With a range of specialists and our knowledgeable travel consultants on hand, this show will provide travellers with the latest information and personalised advice on how to make the most of their travel experiences. It also provides the opportunity to grab exclusive deals on the day,” Mr Friend said.
All Flight Centre stores nationwide will also hold in-store shows over this weekend and will have access to the amazing deals.
