Wolf Blass takes out prestigious ‘International Red Winemaker of the Year’ award at the International Wine Challenge.
Wolf Blass has been awarded the title of ‘International Red Winemaker of the Year’ at last night’s International Wine Challenge in London.
This is the second time that Wolf Blass has been awarded this accolade, the first was in 2008.
The International Wine Challenge (IWC) is recognised as the world’s finest, most meticulously judged and most influential wine competition in the world.
Over 12,000 entries from 51 countries were judged and all medal winners were blind tasted a minimum of three times to ensure consistency and fairness. Wolf Blass was one of three finalists for each of the International Red Winemaker and International White Winemaker of the Year awards demonstrating the strength of their winemaking skills across all wine styles.
This is the first year in the competition’s 30 year history that a winery has been shortlisted for both International Red Winemaker and International White Winemaker awards in the same year.
Wolf Blass Chief Winemaker, Chris Hatcher, was thrilled to add this latest accolade to the many successes over the past 40 years.
“Winning the highly acclaimed title of’ International Red Winemaker of the Year is great triumph for Wolf Blass and reinforces our reputation as one of Australia's truly iconic winemakers with a rich history of winning major awards at both Australian and International Wine Competitions.
“Awards won by current vintage wines across the spectrum of Wolf Blass ranges all contributed to this outstanding win and showcase the strength of our wine quality across all price points and styles. This is testament to our vineyards and our Wolf Blass viticulture and winemaking teams.
“In our 40 year history Wolf Blass has won over 3000 awards and is the only winery to have won four Jimmy Watson trophies – the most prestigious and sought after wine award in Australia. We are also humbled to have received this same IWC award of International Red Winemaker of the Year in 2008.
“This award caps off a fantastic 12 months for Wolf Blass, highlighted by the Black Label Cabernet Shiraz Malbec 2008 coming equal second in the inaugural Master Blend Classification, Black Label 2007 winning Best Red (non-Bordeaux) blend at the Five Nations Wine Challenge and collecting five double gold medals across our range at the China Wine and Spirit Awards.
“Wolf Blass is well known globally for making wines with ‘Quality, Character and Consistency’ and this win further enhances that reputation.
“I am incredibly proud and humbled by the work that is carried out by the Wolf Blass winemaking team, who continue to deliver award-winning Australian wines,” he adds.
The International Wine Challenge is an annual British based wine competition led by Charles Metcalfe and a team of eminent wine judges such as Oz Clarke and Tim Atkin MW.
