Flava Rolls Out Across Lower New Zealand
Flava Rolls Out Across Lower New Zealand
The Radio Network (TRN) are expanding
their hip hop and R&B radio brand Flava into Wellington and
Dunedin. The roll out of Flava radio has commenced in
Wellington with 4,000 songs and in Dunedin with 2,000 songs
playing in a row on Flava’s new
frequencies:
Wellingon -
104.5FM
Dunedin - 88.6FM
In
addition Christchurch gains enhanced coverage with Flava
heard on 88.0 and 107.7FM
Flava’s Content Director, Christian Boston says interest in the station has been high from fans.
“We’ve had so much demand to get Flava into everywhere from Dunedin to the Gold Coast. We’ve even had offers from people to put transmitters on their houses, so it’s great to be able expand the network. It was the number one station with the teens in two out of its three surveyed markets last year, so to be able to have it in eight locations this year is a very exciting expansion for us.”
Boston says Flava really resonates with 18-39 year old market.
“With our launch of Flava into Wellington and Dunedin it will enable us to capitalise on the ever growing urban audience and further raise TRN’s overall fresh and funky youth audience,” says Boston.
In addition to delivering urban music lovers the hottest new hip-hop and R&B music a full programme will launch at midday on 19 July with celebrity interviews, exclusive remixes, lifestyle information and news.
Dave ‘Dr Fane’ Fane, Flava’s morning radio host 6am-10am weekdays with co-hosts Pete ‘da Palagi’ Marsden and Tash Ieremia are stoked to soon be on broadcasting across more of the airwaves, particularly Dr Fane, who lived in Wellington for 12 years.
“I arrived grudgingly into Wellington in 1990 – I admit it, I was Auckland hard! I left Wellington in 2002, a blubbering emotional, artistic, Hurricanes for life mess! It’s the best to be back via the radio waves into Wellington. It’s a city that blows the word ‘normal’ away, literally!” says Fane.
Flava launched initially on 23 July 2004 and has been delivering hip hop and R&B music to over 96,300 listeners per week in the Northland, Auckland, Rotorua, Tauranga, Napier and Christchurch regions. Flava’s most successful region is Rotorua being the number one station overall for the ten plus year old age group from the TNS New Zealand Commercial Survey 1/2013 released in April 2013.
