Asteron Life announces key partnership with charity United Way

Asteron Life is delighted to announce its support to partner with charity organisation United Way NZ as a key corporate sponsor.

United Way NZ is a unique philanthropic organisation that distributes funding to smaller community projects that don’t have the scale to attract sufficient financial and volunteer support on their own. It distributes grants to around 140 charities New Zealand-wide each year. These have included longstanding New Zealand organisation Lifeline, the Battered Women’s Trust and victims of the Christchurch earthquake.

Asteron Life’s Executive Manager of Marketing and Product, Don Allerston, says United Way NZ aligns with its objectives of supporting people in the community at a grass roots level.

“We were looking for a key sponsorship and we liked what United Way NZ stood for. We like the way it encourages its sponsors to get involved at a practical level within the community. We look forward to Asteron Life staff providing hands-on skills and support to United Way NZ in the very near future,” Allerston says. Asteron Life is kicking off its support to the campaign by donating $1 for every marketing pack it distributes as part of its forthcoming ‘Live with Confidence’ Roadshow in July.

United Way NZ chief executive Don Oliver says he is delighted to welcome Asteron Life and as partners with the organisation.

"We have been given an encouraging boost from Asteron’s sponsorship announcement today,” Oliver says. “The last couple of years has been really hard for the charitable sector and we look forward to working with Asteron Life and its employees to achieve the best possible outcome for the many charities we represent.”

United Way draws on the support of around 135 volunteers each year to help the charities it supports. Employee volunteers can loan their professional skills to help charities deliver better services to the community, while funding is distributed for those charities which do great work but are too small to attract the funds they need to survive on their own. Employees can also become involved as donors through United Way NZ’s payroll giving programme.

United Way operates in 46 countries throughout the world and receives more than $6 billion in donations each year. Funds donated to United Way NZ are administered by the National Office and allocated regionally through a rigorous screening programme involving on-site visits by local volunteers.
