Speakeasy Brewery’s Beers Available in New Zealand
Hashigo Zake announces the addition of San Francisco’s Speakeasy to its portfolio of celebrated international breweries.
On the Fourth of July 2013 Speakeasy’s flagship Big Daddy IPA will go on tap at Wellington bars Hashigo Zake and
Goldings Free Dive as well as Auckland’s Brothers Beer and Hallertau Brewbar. At the same time bottled Big Daddy,
Prohibition Amber Ale and Double Daddy Imperial IPA will become available in bottles in better bars, bottle stores and
supermarkets around New Zealand.
Speakeasy has been making great craft beer in San Francisco since first opening in 1997. Their flagships are Big Daddy
IPA, Prohibition Ale, and the seasonal releases Scarlett Red Rye and Tallulah Extra Pale Ale. With a love for the
sinister and the underground, Speakeasy operates out of a corner of San Francisco once known as Butchertown.
Speakeasy’s beer names and branding recall the period of US Prohibition, when any of that country’s citizens wanting a
beer had no choice but to shop from gangsters. Perhaps it is timely to remind regulators in New Zealand of the
unintended consequences when arbitrary restrictions are placed on the sale of liquor.
Speakeasy joins Green Flash, Southern Tier, Bear Republic, Ballast Point, Rogue, Left Coast and Coronado in Hashigo
Zake’s stable of elite US breweries that it distributes throughout New Zealand. Hashigo Zake also distributes the beer
of several local breweries and of other breweries from Australia, Japan and Europe.
