NetHui 2013 booked solid, extra tickets released

Due to an unprecedented level of demand, InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) has today released a fresh and final tranche of tickets for NetHui 2013. All those people who have been sitting on the ticketing waitlist will be allocated the first of these, with the remainder expected to sell out quickly.

InternetNZ Community and Collaboration Lead Ellen Strickland strongly encourages people interested in attending NetHui 2013 to take advantage of this final release of tickets and to register at www.nethui.org.nz.

“Do so now to avoid missing out. This year’s NetHui has proved extremely popular, with registrations rapidly heading towards 400, representing a range of people from New Zealand’s wider Internet community and civil society.”

NetHui 2013 is being held over 3 days - from 8-10 July 2013 at the Wellington Town Hall.

Strickland says an exciting slate of over 30 NetHui 2013 discussion sessions has now been confirmed. The cornucopia of session titles can be viewed online at www.nethui.org.nz/programme. Full session details are being progressively added online this week and next.

“These sessions form the collaborative basis of NetHui 2013 and nicely complement the expert panels, workshops, meet-ups and speaker keynotes already confirmed. There will be something to pique everybody’s interest,” she says.

Sessions include State Surveillance of Online Communications, Music and the Internet, Harmful Digital Communications, Open Internet and Networked Learning, Anonymity Online, the Digital Divide and 3G, Open Research, Handling Privacy Breaches, BYOD, Pacific Communities Online, Web Standards and Accessibility, Rural Connectivity, Health Online, Privacy by Design, Digital Inclusion, Media Convergence, and much more.

Speakers and panellists include, among many others, US-based digital activist and Anonymous expert Quinn Norton, Pt England School Principal Russell Burt, Mega CEO Vikram Kumar and Xero Chief Executive Rod Drury.

A number of associated community events are being held on the margins of NetHui 2013. On the evening of Monday 8 July, an Internet Wahine / Girl Geek Dinner will take place and the We are Legion documentary film will be screened. InternetNZ will also hold its AGM. The night of Tuesday 9 July will see a Creative Commons meet-up and a ‘Solve for X with Google X’ discussion. After NetHui 2013 finishes on Wednesday 10 July an Orcon Great Blend after party will be held at the water-front Macs Brewery.

The level of sponsor and community support for NetHui 2013 has intensified as the event nears. Global software giant Microsoft has come on board as a Gold sponsor and New Zealand telco infrastructure company Chorus has joined as a Bronze sponsor.
