Ngatamariki Geothermal Power Station reaches full capacity

Ngatamariki Geothermal Power Station reaches full capacity during testing

Mighty River Power’s 82MW Ngatamariki Geothermal Power Station near Taupo reached full capacity for the first time today, a significant milestone in the commissioning programme for the station.

Mighty River Power’s General Manager Development, Mark Trigg, said reaching full capacity with all four generating units in operation and supplying the national grid was in line with the previously disclosed schedule and budget for the station.

The addition of the base load Ngatamariki power station will further expand Mighty River Power’s annual electricity production, and will take the contribution from renewable geothermal to more than 40% of the Company’s total generation.

“During July and August we’ll be continuing with testing and tuning of the individual units and the overall plant which will see variation in total output, before Ngatamariki settles into its normal base load role," Mr Trigg said.
