Effects of weather on mail delivery
1) Lower North Island:
Postal deliveries will not be possible today (Friday 21 June) across most of the Wellington region, or in Wanganui.
“We apologise for any inconvenience, and will be processing all of the mail in our care today, so that it can be promptly delivered once the after-effects of these storms have been addressed,” New Zealand Post spokesman Michael Tull said.
2) South Island:
Nelson/Marlborough: Deliveries are proceeding as normal.
Kaikoura coast: Delivery was not possible today for Rural Delivery rounds in Cheviot or Kaikoura.
Canterbury and the West Coast: Deliveries have been stopped. In many parts of this affected area – including Christchurch city - deliveries began this morning, but ceased due to prevailing conditions.
South Canterbury: Deliveries are proceeding in most of this region, except for more isolated locations such as Twizel or Fairlie.
Lower South Island: Deliveries are proceeding across most of the lower South Island today, but may need to stop in Balclutha and Gore if weather or ground conditions worsen. Deliveries to the hill suburbs of Oamaru would appear to be unlikely at this time..
“We apologise for the inconvenience, but the safety of our posties and of other road users must come first,” New Zealand Post spokesman Michael Tull said.
3) Delays likely to inter-island mail:
There are likely to be delays to inter-island mail, due to the current Cook Strait ferry stoppages.
“We regret any inconvenience, but this is a matter which is outside of our control,” New Zealand Post spokesman Michael Tull said.
