AA Insurance Urges Customers Affected by Weather Havoc to Call
Auckland – 21 June 2013 - AA Insurance is urging its customers affected by the severe weather causing havoc across the country to contact them as soon as possible to make a claim, especially if they need emergency repairs.
AA Insurance has already received several claims for home and car damage, with the majority coming from Wellington and Auckland.
Suzanne Wolton, AA Insurance Head of Customer Relations, said, “We had several claims overnight from people who needed urgent help. We’ve had cars slide off the road, trees fall on roofs and cars, guttering being blown off, and floor boards damaged to name a few. One customer called to say that her TV had caught fire due to an electrical surge from a lightning bolt that struck her TV aerial.”
As the bad weather continues over the coming days, AA Insurance expects a deluge of claims.
“There is no deadline to make a claim, but the sooner you let us know, the sooner we can help you,” continued Suzanne. “Our team handling these weather-related claims are experienced and can give our customers the help they need to get things sorted quickly.”
AA Insurance advises its customers
to:
• Stay indoors unless absolutely
necessary and don’t drive unless you have to
•
Secure or move your outdoor furniture inside
• Unplug
appliances which may be affected by electrical power surges.
If power is lost unplug major appliances
• Pull
curtains and drapes over windows to prevent injury from
shattered or flying glass
• Do not attempt to repair
any damage until it is safe to do so
• If there is
water in your light fittings, turn your lights off and call
an electrician immediately
• If it is safe to do so,
place a tarpaulin over any areas where the roof is leaking
• If the floors are wet, lift your furniture off the
floor to prevent staining
• Keep your damaged contents
if you can or take photos – this is useful to confirm what
needs replacing
• Call us as soon as possible to
report any damage to your property especially if you need
emergency
repairs.
