NetHui 2013 national keynote to explore ‘ReTooling School’

InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) is pleased to announce that Pt England School Principal Russell Burt will deliver the national keynote speech on Day Three of NetHui 2013.

Titled ‘ReTooling School’, the national keynote will explore how school can be re-engineered with Internet-based technologies to make learning more engaging and empowering. Issues of ‘equity’ and ‘access’ will also be covered, focussing on how priority learners can be given the same opportunities for 3rd millennium citizenship as everybody else.

Russell Burt has been an educator for 34 years, spending his adult life working with Maori and Pasifika children and families through school and community. Under his stewardship, Tamaki’s Pt England School has developed a reputation for innovative development of literacy with eLearning and for raising achievement outcomes. He has worked at Pt England school since 1991 and has a convening role in the Manaiakalani Schools Cluster which is committed to growing digital citizenship for children in the Tamaki Community.

‘Retooling School’ hinges on a Change Pedagogy Imperative, says Russell Burt. “By bringing together essential aspects of learning with new media, it is more than possible to develop new learner agency, efficacy and leadership in learning.”

Digital modes of learning are being enthusiastically embraced by many of today’s educators and the possibilities they present are endless. InternetNZ Community and Collaboration Lead Ellen Strickland says Russell’s keynote will be a must-listen for those wanting to find out more about how digital technologies can empower and get the most out of students.
