Hot New Invelox Technology Already Available In New Zealand
A revolutionary way of generating wind energy exciting global media and technology blogs is already in New Zealand says Reza Sehdehi, vice president of PacificWind.
The Discovery Channel website, which gets 2-5 million views a day; Geek.com, which gets 1000-10,000 views a day and the technology blog Gizmodo, which gets 10,000-100,00 views a day are amongst the big-name blogs raving about a new type of electricty generation which is already available in New Zealand and Australia.
The INVELOX wind concentration and delivery system brings the wind to the turbine instead of putting the turbine in the wind.
A funnel draws wind through ducted tubing into the generator where it is converted into electricity a process which Sehdehi says is able to generate electricity at 3.2 KPH, using blades that are up to 84% shorter to produce up to 600% of the electrical power of traditional turbines.
"I'm not surprised technology writers are so excited about it. We were excited by the prospect of bringing it to New Zealand."
Developed by US R&D company Sheerwind, INVELOX technology was bought to New Zealand by the New Zealand-based company PacificWind in 2012.
Since then the company has worked on several large-scale projects as well as the potential to provide generators to customers with smaller generation needs.
Exposure in the New Zealand rural media and the Northland Field Days resulted in a lot of interest in smaller wind generators that would produce up to 40kW at a time but Sehdehi says systems werent in place to produce those generators at the time.
Sehdehi says that one of the benefits of the technology is the flexibility it offers.
"We can incorporate the INVELOX funnel into the design of any structure, be it a shopping mall, factory or large shed."
