IBM supports business success with Unitec scholarships
Scholarships provide financial support and business mentoring for Unitec students.
Auckland, New Zealand - June 2013: Unitec and IBM have announced that they will be awarding ten Success Scholarships to assist students. The scholarships, worth $5,000 each, are for degree and postgraduate level business students enrolled in IT, business management, finance, and communication degree programmes.
The announcement is part of the Collaboration Agreement signed between IBM and Unitec last year which resulted in the opening of the IBM Delivery Centre at Unitec and has seen the two organisations partnering to implement a number of initiatives, including extended industry-based 'Earn As You Learn' placements.
The ten scholarship recipients will also receive one-on-one mentoring support from an IBM business mentor along with regular business networking opportunities.
"Providing financial assistance through the Success Scholarships program is a tangible way for IBM to support the academic success of local sudents. The added benefit of business mentoring and networking opportunities will help students build their knowledge and confidence, making them well prepared for a career in business when they graduate," said IBM New Zealand Managing Director, Rob Lee.
The program reflects IBM's commitment to diversity and aims to attract interest from applicants who are under-represented in the business sector.
"We're excited about the opportunities that the Success Scholarship package will offer Unitec students," says Unitec's Chief Executive Rick Ede.
"Alongside the employment opportunities through the IBM Delivery Centre and 'Earn as you Learn' placements, it provides a real boost to the quality and calibre of experience we can provide here on campus."
The collaboration with Unitec is based on the successful model established by IBM with Ballarat University in Australia.
Applications for the Success Scholarships are open until 30 June 2013. For more information text 'Success' to 244 (texts cost 20c) or apply online at www.unitec.ac.nz/ibmsuccess.
