Progress of Food Bill welcomed
The hospitality industry welcomes the Minister for Food Safety Nikki Kaye’s announcement that she intends to progress the passage of the Food Bill. This legislation is important in modernising outdated food safety legislation and will provide a nationally consistent food safety regime for the food service sector, said Hospitality New Zealand Chief Executive Bruce Robertson.
There are already 2,500 bars, restaurants and cafes using the new system via the voluntary implementation programme, so there can be confidence that the measures in the Bill will work.
Hospitality New Zealand is also pleased that the Minister would be addressing some of its concerns about the fee setting structure to ensure that local authorities did not see the new legislation as a means of collecting additional revenue. Hospitality New Zealand would be making supportive submissions to the Select Committee considering the Minister’s Supplementary Order Paper, concluded Mr Robertson.
