NZ Health Innovation Hub appoints innovation manager

The New Zealand Health Innovation Hub is pleased to announce the appointment of Carmel Howley as the Hub’s Innovation Manager at Canterbury District Health Board.

Carmel starts with us this week and will be based at Hazeldean, Addington and work closely with the Via Innovations Team; Business Development Unit; Canterbury Research Office and our Quality Improvement teams.

Dr Frances Guyett, New Zealand Health Innovation Hub Chief Executive, says Carmel steps into her new role with the New Zealand Health Innovation Hub after working at the University of Canterbury’s College of Science where she led several major projects to identify and drive business development opportunities.

"Carmel has initiated and facilitated national and international partnerships resulting in effective business opportunities for consultancy, research and commercialisation. She is well known in the Canterbury IT and science innovation sector,” Dr Guyett says.

Her previous experience was in information services where she developed product applications and positioned them in the marketplace.

“Carmel’s role with the Hub will be to work alongside our Clinical Director Innovation Dr Helen Lunt and the local innovation industries to support the Canterbury Health System clinicians and staff turn their great ideas for new products and services into commercial reality and also to help us partner with industry on product and service development,” Dr Guyett says.

“She will work closely with CDHB departments and services involved with innovation and the commercialisation of research.”

The New Zealand Health Innovation Hub is a partnership between New Zealand’s four largest DHBs – Canterbury, Auckland, Waitemata and Counties Manukau. The Hub has funding support from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment as well as the Canterbury Development Corporation and Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development.
