Season’s first major snowfall greets Southern Discoveries’ Milford Sound team
The Southern Discoveries Milford Sound team awoke this morning (May 27 2013) to stunning white peaks following the first snowfall of the season last night.
Southern Discoveries is currently operating fly-cruise-fly tours into Milford Sound following the announcement last week by the New Zealand Transport Agency that the Milford Road is closed to traffic for up to two weeks.
Southern Discoveries General Manager John Robson said fresh snow always made the sound look “breathtaking”.
“It gives visitors an amazing opportunity to see Milford Sound in all its glory. The snow provides a spectacular backdrop and guests visiting Milford will be flying over some of the best scenery they’ll ever see,” he said.
“To fly into this spectacular wilderness when it’s covered in snow and then cruise around the sound with limited visitors is a unique and rare opportunity, one people will never forget.”
More snow is predicted overnight (Monday May 27) on the peaks before clearing during the week.
