Strategic Pay Appoints Top Talent to Board
AUCKLAND, 21 May 2013 - Strategic Pay, New Zealand’s leading specialist remuneration and performance consultancy, has appointed John Avery and Dr Helen Cross as independent directors.
Chief Executive Officer John McGill, says, “The company has chosen to move away from the relative comfort of executive directors to non-executive appointees. Both John Avery and Dr Helen Cross are experienced directors and we welcome their input to growing our company.”
John Avery is a professional director and brings wide experience in a broad range of business entities from listed companies to not for profits across a wide spectrum of sectors. His directorships include Local Government Funding Agency Ltd, Regional Facilities Auckland Ltd, Spidertracks Ltd and Office Products Depot Ltd. He is also on the Board of Trustees of NZ School of Dance. He was a partner in law firm Hesketh Henry and is a former chairman of ITM. He was also a director for the Warehouse, retiring in 2009 after almost 25 years with the company.
Mr Avery says, “I’m
delighted to have been appointed as chairman. I’ve known
and worked with the company for some years. I look forward
to playing a part in its future growth.”
Dr Helen Cross is the Managing
Director of Cross
Ventures, a strategic advisory business focused on
helping New Zealand companies expand internationally. The
company works across a wide range of sectors including
technology, fashion, retail and horticulture. She acts as an
independent director or advisor to the board for a number of
companies including NZ Tax Refunds, Power Business
Services and SnapComms. She is an
entrepreneur mentor at the ICEHOUSE and the University of
Auckland Business School, and is a former Farmlands’
director.
Dr Cross says,

Mr McGill adds, “These high calibre appointments fairly raises the ante on the management team, indeed all staff, to respond to regular independent scrutiny of the company’s business. While the previous governance model served us well it is already obvious after one board meeting that our new model is the way forward for us.”
Strategic Pay shareholders are represented on the board by Executive Directors Dennis O’Callaghan and Geoff Summers. Jarrod Moyle, John Ellen, and Noel Davie remain as principal consultants and shareholders. They are joined on the senior management team by Catherine Battersby, Manager Business Services and Santa Harvett, Manager Market Information.
