New Lynn Continues Mitre 10 Expansion

New Lynn Continues Mitre 10 Expansion

Construction on Mitre 10’s 35th MEGA store is now under way in Auckland’s New Lynn with recruitment for up to 130 new jobs also beginning this month.

The New Lynn store is the first of three new Mitre 10 MEGA Stores planned for construction in 2013 as the country’s largest home improvement and garden retailer continues its rapid expansion programme that is intended to culminate in a network of 44 Mitre 10 MEGA Stores nationwide.

Acting CEO Grant Fraser said “That reflects both our growth and reinvestment programmes as we push towards breaking the $1 billion annual revenue mark in the 2014 financial year.

“By the end of 2014 we will also have refreshed the look and feel of almost all of our Mitre 10 stores nationwide. These programmes, which includes product lines and our ongoing focus on customer service and good value, is bringing about significant increases in revenues both in same store and new store numbers.”

The New Lynn store, on the corner of Clark Street and Astley Avenue, is scheduled to be the first new store to open this year.

The 11,000sqm store is scheduled to open in the last quarter of 2013 with up to 130 new jobs available in the West Auckland area. It will be owned and operated by Cam Caithness, who currently owns Mitre 10 MEGA Warkworth.

“I’m excited to be able to confirm that construction is now underway on the New Lynn store,” Mr Caithness said.

“The Mitre 10 MEGA format is incredibly popular. The combination of trade and retail facilities along with extensive product ranges and everyday low pricing consistently brings in customers and I’m very pleased to be bringing that mix to New Lynn.

“New Zealander’s get stuck in with DIY, it’s really quite ingrained in our culture and Mitre 10 MEGA stores seem to fit right in with this as they are a one stop home improvement shop.”

Cam Caithness has been involved with Mitre 10 since 2009 first owning the Mitre 10 Solutions store in Warkworth. In 2011, he oversaw the successful transformation of this store to a Mitre 10 MEGA, which within just 18 months of opening, was named Auckland’s BEST Large Format store in the New Zealand Retailers Association 2012 Top Shop Awards.

“I have had great success with the Mitre 10 MEGA Warkworth store and am planning to carry across the same high standard to New Lynn. At Warkworth I place a real emphasis on staff and training.

“I’m looking to replicate this at the new store so that we are able to help our customers with all their home improvement projects by offering great customer service and valuable knowledge on top of great products and pricing.”

Mitre 10 MEGA New Lynn will feature an undercover drive-thru for trade customers, a large garden centre, children’s play area, café and over 250 car parks.

Recruitment for management positions will begin this month.
