Niue – where the living – and spending is easy!

Niue – where the living – and spending is easy!

Auckland, 13 May 2013 – It was not long ago that visitors to Niue’s only complaint was that they found spending their money a challenge which was compounded by limited on island banking and monetary facilities.

Along with a raft of infrastructure developments and upgrades designed to enhance the visitor experience on Niue whilst still retaining its authentic Pacific charm, banking and spending has now been made a whole lot easier for visitors.

Niue Island Tourism Development Manager, Hayden Porter provides the following update for agents to share with their clients:
1. This week Kiwibank opened in Niue!
2. Eftpos is now available for payments at a number of key businesses on island including petrol station, supermarket, visitor centre, Niue rentals, Alofi rentals and Pelenis travel. As Niue operates NZD currency, these transactions are treated as New Zealand domestic transactions and only fees apply to credit card withdrawls (as in NZL)
3. Credit card payments can be made at Matavai, Niue Tourism, Niue rentals and Alofi rentals.
4. The visitor centre offers a voucher system where tours can be prepaid via eftpos or credit card.
5. Local businesses can now take and make payments electronically making it easier for clients to prepay accommodation and tours as well as being easier for agencies to deal with payments.

Other insider information from kiwi representative Susie Williams at Hogan and Associates from her recent visit to the island is that Swanson Supermarket now has a greatly improved range of provisions, ideal for self caterers. Susie noted Lindt chocolate and Kapiti cheeses as being such self-catering essentials!
