Corbel Construction appoints Kristina Wischnowsky as its Business Excellence Manager
Christchurch-based construction company Corbel Construction has appointed Kristina Wischnowsky to a newly created
position in the company of Business Excellence Manager reporting to the Managing Director. In this role, Kristina is
responsible for human resources, health and safety, training, systems and processes, and best practice across the
company’s three divisions.
Kristina joins Corbel from Campus Living Villages (CLV), the on-campus student accommodation provider, where she was
their National Human Resources manager. Prior to CLV, she held senior management roles with engineering consultancy
Golder Associates, Edelman Public Relations (Australia) and the New South Wales Department of Housing. In each of these
positions, Kristina has been responsible for leading significant change management or organisational development
programmes.
Kristina has a Bachelor of Business Studies, majoring in HRM (human resource management) and a Graduate Diploma in Arts,
in Psychology, both from Massey University.
Corbel Construction’s Managing Director Craig Jones said, “Our business going forward is about having the best people
and best practices to deliver the best outcomes for our clients. Kristina’s role has been created to ensure the company
has the right people and the right systems and processes in place to enable us to increase the scale of the business. We
plan to increase the number of employees from around 75 fulltime permanent staff to between 100 and 150 over the next 12
months, and to over 200 in five year’s time.”
Currently a mid-sized construction company, Corbel is best-known for its delivery of small to medium sized commercial
projects, and mid-to-upper end residential projects. More recently, it has become involved in repair and rebuild work
resulting from the Canterbury earthquakes and is looking to capitalise on this work to expand its business more
generally.
“Looking ahead, Corbel plans to undertake larger commercial construction projects which will require a larger workforce
as we seek to expand our commercial division. This brings with it the requirement to manage a more complex business,
which is why we have appointed Kristina,” Craig Jones said.
About Corbel Construction
Established in 2000, Christchurch-based Corbel Construction employs over 75 fulltime permanent staff across three
divisions: Commercial Construction, Residential Building and Joinery Manufacturing. A private company, Corbel owned and
operated by its founders Craig Jones and Mark Wells.
The company has grown significantly, averaging 25% growth per annum over the past six years, with targeted annual
revenue of $30 million for this financial year.
Corbel therefore has the skills, experience and resources to allow it to undertake a number of projects concurrently.
The Residential division has typically focused on the mid-to-upper end of the residential housing market with the
Commercial division specialising in the small-to-medium sized commercial projects. More recently, Corbel has recruited a
number of talented people within the industry and is now able to undertake larger commercial projects after having
established its credentials in this market segment following work undertaken for the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute
of Technology (CPIT) and Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB).
