Housing Accord: “Brings reality to Auckland’s housing market”
The housing supply accord unveiled today between Government and Auckland Council will provide a needed boost to the construction industry and create jobs both for suppliers and trades, said Michael Barnett, head of Auckland Chamber of Commerce.
“This will give some certainty and reassurance to Aucklanders. It shows that we can address our major issues and get practical action, if we decide to apply pragmatic leadership.”
The Accord shouldn’t be seen as a cure of all the issues affecting the housing sector, but it is enabling and a useful step forward to Auckland’s housing supply and affordability concerns, said Mr Barnett.
The confirmation that the Unitary Plan is expected to be notified in September will enable Auckland to move forward and accelerate the pace of development and implementation of the Auckland Plan, he noted.
