Half-brother to Salamanca (NZ) at NZB Weanling Sale

A timely stakes victory by Salamanca (NZ) in Saturday’s $50,000 Listed Berkley Stud Champagne Stakes (1250m) has provided significant updates for a number of horses in NZB’s National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale that starts on Wednesday.

Wednesday’s weanling session will include a half-brother to Salamanca (Alamosa x Anca) by the in-form sire Darci Brahma. The colt, at Lot 6, will be offered by Gordon Cunningham's Curraghmore Stud who has been the top vendor at the weanling session for the last seven years.

“He’s a quality colt and I think he was one of the nicest foals we had on the farm last year,” said Curraghmore Stud’s Stud Manager Gordon Cunningham.

Stradbroke Ambitions for Famous Seamus (NZ)

The Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap is now on the cards for Famous Seamus (NZ) who won Saturday’s A$175,000 Listed Prime Minister's Cup (1300m) on the Gold Coast, completing a stakes double for his sire Elusive City.

The Noel Mayfield-Smith trained Famous Seamus (ex Clinique) won the race by a long neck and the four-year-old has now won two stakes races in a row having taken the Listed Aphs Hinkler Handicap at his last start at Eagle Farm.

He will now be aimed at the Stradbroke Handicap and will likely line up in the Group 3 BRC Sprint or have a trial before heading to the Group 1 race.

More Stakes Success for Kekova (NZ)

Tough mare Kekova (NZ) (Elusive City x Racing Waters) raced to her second stakes win on Saturday in the $50,000 Listed Reynolds Electrical Great Easter Stakes (1400m) at Riccarton, the first leg of a stakes winning double for her sire Elusive City.

The David Haworth & Matt Dixon trained Kekova won by a comfortable 1.75 lengths and the result gave jockey Lisa Allpress her 1000th race win. She is the first woman jockey to achieve the feat in New Zealand’s history.

“I was concerned with the heavy track but she handled it well,” commented co-trainer David Haworth. “She has been up all season and has done very well so she is now enjoying a deserved spell at Little Avondale Stud.”
