Whānau to the Future: A strategic platform for Waipareira
The launch of Te Whanau O Waipareira’s 25 Year Strategic plan was a fusion of the past, the present and the future.
At Whanau Centre, Waipareira’s multi-million dollar West Auckland facility, the next 25 years of the organisation was
unveiled by the Board of Trustees.
The plan maps out Waipareira’s pathway ahead, while future proofing the organisation and acknowledging the important
role of the Hoani Waititi Marae.
Board chair Josie Smith said Waipareira was an organisation built on big aspirations and dreams for the betterment of
the community.
“We want to see our tamariki and rangatahi achieving and go on to become positive role models for their whanau,” Josie
said.
“It is the duty of Te Whanau O Waipareira to ensure whanau becomes the champions of their destiny.”
Waipareira CEO John Tamihere said partnerships and new relationships with the Waitemata DHB, Massey University,
Microsoft NZ, Medtech NZ and the Atlanta-based Families First organisation will ensure Te Whanau O Waipareira remains at
the leading edge of service delivery.
“As an organisation, we could not have asked for better partnerships for our future developments,” John said.
“Plus this is a Board, who can see where our future lies.
“We will never forget our past but we must also safeguard for the future of our tamariki.
“If they succeed, then we all succeed as a community.”
John also paid tribute to representatives from key government agencies who already have a relationship and support
Waipareira.
The launch took on a futuristic aspect with a special presentation video made by urban Maori sensations and the
soon-to-be global giants JGeeks.
That video is now available on the Waipareira website, the Te Whanau O Waipareira Facebook page and also its YouTube
page.
Whanau Ora Minister Tariana Turia also made a special appearance at the launch via video.
“I’ve been thinking about Waipareira and the huge amount of work you are doing in the community,” the Minister said.
“Despite all of the criticism, despite the role that government has played – in some ways undermining the work you are
doing, you have still gone on, you have still been successful and what you are doing is something that all of us should
be doing in the community.
“I believe that Waipareira has been a beacon of hope for many, many families in your community,” the Māori Party
co-leader said.
