Waipareira’s Global Reach

Waipareira is reaching out to indigenous organisations around the world as part of its 25 Year Strategic plan.

The West Auckland trust today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Families First, a USA organisation that delivers services to the Georgia, Atlanta community.

Tomorrow the Board of Waipareira will unveil its blue print for the next 25 years.

Waipareira has for the past 28 years been delivering services to whānau in west Auckland.

Families First, which started in 1890, has also been delivering its services to “ensure the success of children in jeopardy by empowering families.”

To mark today’s MoU signing, Families First CEO Kim Anderson and executive Christy Winter travelled to New Zealand.

Waipareira CEO John Tamihere said the kaupapa (philosophy) of Whānau Waipareira and Families First were similar and a formal relationship would be beneficial to both organisations.

“Waipareira is about delivering quality outcomes to the whānau,” John said.

“That’s the same kaupapa as Families First, and I welcome the on-going relationship our organisations will have moving forward.

“Reaching out to indigenous peoples around the world can only help whether it is best practice or dealing with difficulties.”

Kim, who only arrived in New Zealand a few days prior to the launch, said signing an international relationship is a major milestone for both organisations.

“We are formally establishing this partnership to support the development and implementation of best practices in measuring, evaluating and delivering outcomes-based services,” Kim said.

“It’s about the success and self sufficiency of individuals, families/whanau and communities in both metropolitan Atlanta and New Zealand as well as to foster international sharing and learning

“Families First and Te Whānau O Waipareira will establish mechanisms for their respective staffs to collaborate and share best practices and outcomes in an effort to advance their mutual goal of empowering families and enhancing their self sufficiency, capacity, growth, resilience and leadership.
