Zoo News - Hero HQ Opening, Palm Oil Workshops, Conservation Connections and More

Dear Friend

Autumn has finally arrived here in Wellington, and with it school holidays and a brand new exhibit! If you haven't visited us for a while, this is the perfect opportunity to check out all our new developments and see how the Zoo has changed over the past few months.

Marvel at the new Super Heroes of Wellington Zoo

Hero HQ opens on April 25

We are super excited to open our newest exhibit,  HERO HQ,  on Thursday 25 April, and we will be celebrating with fun games and activities all day!

Home to Tarantulas, Scorpions, Goliath Stick Insects and Chameleons and more- HERO HQ is your chance to marvel at the new super heroes of Wellington Zoo.

HERO HQ is all about respecting the little guys and learning about the special powers of nature’s most misunderstood creatures – so we want you to dress up as your favourite superhero too!

There will be special prizes for best dressed and heaps of fun things to learn and do – so we hope you’ll be there to join in all the excitement!

Unmask Palm Oil Workshop
May 4 2013

On May 4 we are proud to be hosting a workshop presented by our friends at Unmask Palm Oil.

Unmask Palm Oil is a NZ campaign for palm oil labelling to give consumers the choice to not support the destructive palm oil industry.  During the morning session, participants will learn about palm oil and the campaign for mandatory labelling, hear from a guest MP and go for a guided walk around the Zoo with a keeper.

There is also an optional afternoon session for those wanting to become more actively involved in their schools or community.

Conservation Connection

Learn more about our conservation efforts

If you have visited us recently, you may have noticed some interesting signs popping up around the Zoo.  These signs are all about our Conservation Connections, and sharing with our visitors what we do both at the Zoo and out in the field.

Learn about the Conservation Connection the Zoo has made with our animals by supporting conservation in the field, as well as at our new Conservation Corner.

April School Holiday Programme

Limited spaces still available

We still have a handful of spaces left for our popular School Holiday Programme. The programme is tailored for kids aged 5-10 years and every day, they will get to meet animals, interact with Zoo staff and go behind the scenes at the Zoo – all the while contributing to conservation!

Each day has a different focus - your kids will have fun exploring the Zoo and getting stuck into all sorts of exciting activities.
