Update from AA Insurance on recent floods

Auckland, 23 April 2013 – AA Insurance is urging its customers affected by the severe weather causing floods across the country to contact them as soon as possible to make a claim.

So far AA Insurance has already received over 180 claims for home damage. Tauranga, Nelson, Richmond, Mount Maunganui, Hamilton and Papamoa Beach are the areas that the majority of claims are being made from.

Suzanne Wolton, AA Insurance Head of Customer Relations, said, “The claims we’ve seen already relate to flood damage in houses and garages including damage to carpets, curtains, walls, roofs and some electrical items damaged by water.

“As further rain and bad weather is expected over the coming days we expect the number of claims to increase once people have fully assessed the damage.”

AA Insurance has also received more than 20 claims relating to flooded vehicles.

“It is important those affected notify their insurer as soon as possible,” continued Suzanne. “There is no deadline to when you can make a claim, however the sooner you lodge your claim, the sooner we can assess the damage and arrange repairs. Our team handling these storm-related claims can give our customers the help they need to eliminate any stress and process their claims quickly.”

AA Insurance advises its customers to:
• If it is safe to do so, place a tarpaulin over any areas where the roof is leaking
• If floors are wet, lift furniture to prevent staining
• If possible, lift wet carpet to allow it to dry - don't use a heater, as this may shrink the carpet
• If your vehicle has been severely damaged do not attempt to drive it
• AA Insurance customers should call 0800 500 216, so we can assess the severity of the damage and arrange to have any damage to homes or vehicles repaired.
