Monthly Traffic Update March 2013

Issued: 22 April 2013 aucklandairport.co.nz

March 2013 Monthly traffic update 8.0% International passenger volumes (excluding transit passengers) at Auckland Airport were up 8.0% versus March 2012. This growth was driven by strong performances on Australian routes (visitor arrivals from Australia up 13.0%) and assisted by the Easter holidays falling partially in March in 2013 (compared to wholly in April in 2012). 201,886 Strong visitor arrivals from Asia continued in March 2013 with arrivals from China up 10.2% versus March 2012 (over 200,000 arrivals for the rolling 12 month period). Visitor arrivals from Thailand (+87.8%), Taiwan (+71.7%), Hong Kong (+51.8%) and Malaysia (45.2%) were all significantly higher than the previous year. Visitor arrivals from traditional markets, including the United Kingdom (+13.5%), the United States (+18.6%) and Japan (+21.4%), were also strong in March 2013 following significant periods of decline.
10.0% Domestic passenger volumes and aircraft movements increased significantly at Auckland Airport in March 2013. Domestic passenger numbers were up 10.0% and domestic aircraft movements were up 4.0% versus March 2012. The increases continue to be driven by increased competition in the domestic market and were further boosted by Easter falling early in 2013. 18.6% Visitor arrivals from the United States were 18.6% higher in March 2013 versus March 2012. Additional route capacity in March 2013 to/from the United States provided by Hawaiian Airlines (which started its service from Honolulu to Auckland in March 2013) and Air New Zealand (Los Angeles and Honolulu routes) has contributed to this growth. This reverses the recent negative US visitor arrival
trend we have observed.
