The loss of Kiwis across the ditch, and more bad news for those poor expats in the UK these past 12 years building up a
nest egg - the NZD is now almost 100% higher against the GBP than the 28 pence back then and headed higher still.
Good day everyone and welcome to the third edition of Brain Gain NZ - a publication where I aim to improve the
match-up between NZ's expats and the Kiwi business community.

Kiwi Loss Across The Ditch
NZ almost always suffers a net loss of citizens to Australia every year, money printing offshore will push the NZD
higher in the 55 – 60 pence range, and house prices keep going up. 863 words
Housing Market
Auckland and Canterbury continue to power ahead on the back of a physical deficiency of property and it is just a matter
of time before the strength spreads to the rest of the country. 944 words
Labour Market
The unemployment rate is near 7% but some employers have been reporting shortages for many months and labour demand is
showing more signs of picking up. There is however no evidence of wages growth lifting. 784 words
Migrant Flows
The net annual gain has risen above 1,000 and looks headed for between 5,000 and 10,000 – positive but not a boom. The
number of expats returning to NZ was 178 higher in February this year than 2012, but the gain is less than 10% which is
hardly surprising considering the high NZD. 372 words
NZ Exchange Rates & Interest Rates
The NZD is starting to consolidate in the 55 – 60 pence range and appears well supported against the greenback with a
level of 90 cents possible within the coming year. The rising NZD will stay the hand of the Reserve Bank until late-2014
or even 2015. 606 words
