CHRISTCHURCH AIRPORT CELEBRATES JETSTAR’S MONTH OF MILESTONES
Christchurch Airport is congratulating Jetstar on achieving two unique milestones this month, as the low fares airline celebrates carrying 5 million domestic passengers across New Zealand and the introduction of its 100th aircraft to its Asia Pacific fleet.
Jetstar has had a long and successful association with Christchurch Airport, launching its first international services from the city to four trans-Tasman destinations in 2006 and basing crew and aircraft at the airport to support its growing domestic services.
Christchurch Airport General Manager Aeronautical Business Development Matthew Findlay says Jetstar deserves to be commended on its investment in developing a choice of services for the whole region and its focus on stimulating growth for the travel industry.
“Reaching a fleet of 100th aircraft underscores what a significant operator Jetstar is across the whole Asia Pacific region,” says Matthew Findlay. “To grow from a domestic carrier to a major brand recognised across the region in less than 10 years is very significant – and testament to the hard work and dedication of the whole Jetstar Group.”
“In New Zealand, Jetstar has grown not only its share of the market, but also created new demand in a highly competitive industry – making air travel more accessible to more people.”
Mr Findlay says the airline has been closely associated with Christchurch since its New Zealand launch in 2006 and has been a strong supporter of the South Island.
“Jetstar has provided more opportunity for visitors from across the Asia Pacific region to come to the South Island, while also promoting the South as an exciting destination in many of our key markets.”
“We’re proud to have been the gateway for 1.3 million Jetstar passengers on their domestic service and to have welcomed many more across the Tasman from the airline’s network of Australian and international destinations.”
“These are two well-deserved milestones, and we congratulate the whole Group – and particularly our Christchurch-based team – on their success.”
