Entertainment questionnaire launched

What is the best thing about hospitality and entertainment in Wellington? Is there anything that can be done to improve the nighttime experience on offer here in the world’s coolest little capital? Are there any relevant concerns that local leaders need to address?

Hospitality New Zealand (HNZ) and the Restaurant Association of New Zealand (RANZ) are encouraging thousands of Wellingtonians to fill out a questionnaire to gauge public opinion on the vitality of the city’s hospitality and entertainment scene - and to assemble information for those working to make the inner city an even better destination.

HNZ and RANZ, the industry mouthpieces for the hospitality industry, represent more than 5,000 related businesses.

“We’re in the business of responding to customer needs - and our commitment to creating the most responsible environment for them to enjoy hospitality is a matter of public record,” says Hospitality NZ’s Wellington president, Jeremy Smith, also the managing director of the Trinity Group. The Trinity Group is one of the country’s major hospitality organisations, whose business interests include bottle stores, bars and pubs, hotels and resorts.

“What this survey aims for is a better understanding of how our industry can best achieve both while also safeguarding Wellington’s status as one of the region’s most dynamic entertainment scenes.”

Rather than simply put out a media release outlining a particular view, Mr Smith said it was decided that the public’s opinion should be sought by way of a simple questionnaire.

In addition to general diners and bar-goers of all ages, the survey is specifically pitched at students and hospitality workers.

It canvasses, as well as general attitudes about the local scene, specific responses on aspects of the Wellington entertainment and hospitality experience, including security, opening hours, safety cameras and the ongoing issue of supermarket and liquor store sales of alcohol.

In all, the survey’s sponsors are aiming for around 5,000 completed questionnaires. The results will be available to operators within the sector and local authorities considering issues related to liquor licensing.
