Rock Concerts must Continue at Wellington Stadium

Rock Concerts must Continue at Wellington Stadium

Westpac Stadium Trust should be working closely with promoters to attract big rock concerts, says Wellington Employers Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Raewyn Bleakley.

“It’s disappointing that the trust appears to be dialling back on getting one big concert a year.

“These concerts were part of the plan from day one of the stadium’s life. They bring in a huge amount of money and business into the city, and we should not be giving up on them.

“They are part of what makes Wellington the events capital of New Zealand, and the trust should be exploring all avenues to ensure they continue.

“It’s concerning that one of the big promoters sees stadium management as being counterproductive in allowing them to attract big acts.

“The trust must sit down with promoters and sort out any issues that get in the way of achieving that.

“This is a wonderful facility right in the centre of the city and we must take full advantage of it. We must not simply fly the white flag to the likes of Auckland and Dunedin.”
