InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) and Creative Commons Aotearoa NZ are pleased to announce a new strategic funding partnership worth $20,000 to Creative Commons this financial year.
The partnership will see InternetNZ provide funding to help Creative Commons progress and expand its suite of projects including the running of more ‘open licensing’ workshops, other events and the development of sector-specific resources.
InternetNZ Acting Chief Executive Jordan Carter says much of the work of Creative Commons is aligned with InternetNZ’s Objects, and describes the partnership as mutually beneficial.
“Open licensing is becoming an increasingly important part of keeping the Internet open and uncaptureable. Creative Commons is doing great work in this area – notably in championing the freeing up of research data and promoting responsible digital citizenship through its open licensing schools initiative.”
Creative Commons Aotearoa NZ Public Lead Matt McGregor says Creative Commons is extremely pleased to be partnering with InternetNZ – a likeminded organisation dedicated to realising the potential of a free and open Internet.
“InternetNZ has long been a supporter Creative Commons Aotearoa NZ – from hosting our NetHui meet-ups to funding our popular ‘CC Kiwi’ video. This partnership will be a great opportunity for the two organisations to strengthen this relationship.
“We particularly look forward to working with InternetNZ to educate young New Zealanders on copyright, Creative Commons licensing and the enormous range of material out there for legal creative reuse,” says McGregor.
About InternetNZ:
InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) is the charitable, non-profit open membership organisation dedicated to protecting and promoting the Internet in New Zealand and fostering a coordinated, cooperative approach to its ongoing development.

About Creative Commons Aotearoa:
Creative Commons is a non-profit organisation that helps people share their copyright works for reuse by others. Sometimes creators and other copyright holders want the public to be able to reuse their works but are unable to allow reuse easily and legally given the works’ “All Rights Reserved” copyright status. Creative Commons licences enable copyright holders to allow reuse of their works by giving everyone a range of permissions in advance.
