InternetNZ and NetSafe in $125,000 partnership
8 April 2013
InternetNZ (Internet New Zealand Inc) and NetSafe have today announced a new strategic partnership that will see InternetNZ provide the cybersafety organisation with $125,000 of core operational funding.
The funding will assist NetSafe in its day-to-day operations and help advance its suite of Internet safety programmes encompassing cyberbullying, computer security, education resources, consumer protection and policy advice.
InternetNZ and NetSafe have a shared history dating back to 2007, with both organisations concerned with ensuring that the Internet is safe and accessible for everyone. This new partnership will strengthen the already close relationship that exists.
InternetNZ Acting Chief Executive Jordan Carter describes NetSafe as New Zealand’s expert organisation on Internet safety, with a track record of performance and profile that is also recognised internationally.
“Many thousands of New Zealanders benefit substantially from NetSafe's cybersafety programmes and services, particularly children and adult consumers and businesses. We fully support NetSafe’s endeavours in improving safety in the online environment. In addition to the funding component, this new partnership will see us work much closer in sharing ideas and research,” says Carter.
NetSafe Executive Director Martin Cocker says NetSafe and InternetNZ are together committed to creating the best possible online environment for New Zealanders. “This partnership directly supports the continuation of a safety programme that recognises both the right to be safe, and the value of an open Internet”.
