Agilent Technologies Announces that 4RF Limited Will Use Agilent X-Series RF Measurement Platform to Test VHF/UHF RF Transceivers
Wellington, April 4, 2013 – Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced today that 4RF Limited has selected key products from Agilent’s X-Series RF measurement platforms to accelerate development and characterization of new VHF/UHF and 900 MHz RF transceivers.
4RF exports its wireless systems to 130 countries, and its radio products need to meet demanding regulatory requirements, including new narrow-band mandates. The innovative design of the company’s RF transceivers (key subsystems within industrial radio systems) is a pacesetter for new product development for many technology companies around the world.
The new Agilent PXA signal analysers, MXG vector signal generators, PNA network analyser and accessories, worth more than US$500,000, were purchased to update the R facility at 4RF headquarters in Wellington, New Zealand.
"Our current design focus is on the digital modulation that is critical to efficient narrow-band operation in the congested land mobile radio spectrum,” said John Yaldwyn, chief technology officer at 4RF. “Agilent’s high-performance PXA signal analyser allows us to evaluate low phase noise oscillators for proper adjacent channel operation and the built-in vector signal analyser allows transmit chain signal-to-noise measurements in a single tool. Device characterization is another requirement being addressed with the new PNA while the vector multi-tone capability of the MXG speeds receiver development. Put simply, excellent tools lead to excellent products.”
The latest investment program continues the long-term business partnership between 4RF and RF Test Solutions Ltd, Agilent’s exclusive partner in New Zealand for over 10 years.
“Our relationship with RF Test Solutions has been critical to our business, and Agilent instrumentation has served us well over the past decade,” Yaldwyn added. “Now with new investment, new engineering staff, and compressed development schedules the time is right for new RF tools to further reduce the time to market for our products."
“Agilent works with leading technology developers and international standards groups to help ensure products can be brought to market quickly and with impeccable quality while accelerating design, validation and compliance testing,” said Simon Rodger, Marketing Manager of Australia and New Zealand, Agilent Electronic Measurement Group. “The PXA is the highest-performance member of the Agilent X-Series signal analyzer family. The X-Series is an evolutionary approach to signal analysis that spans instruments, measurements and software, including more than 25 industry-leading measurement applications that cover cellular communication, wireless connectivity, digital video, and aerospace and defence.”
