Giesen sweet wine wins trophy at Easter Show

Giesen Wines has claimed the Champion Sweet Wine Trophy at the Easter Show Wine Awards in New Zealand for its Giesen The Brothers Marlborough Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc 2012.

This is the second recent accolade Giesen has received for its sweeter styles, with its Giesen EstateRiesling 2012 having recently been named Best Aromatic of Competition at the Sydney International Wine Show 2013.

“The sweeter styles have always been popular both internationally and in New Zealand and this looks set to continue,” said Theo Giesen.

“But there is still room to grow as consumers embrace this style and look to experiment with wine. Sweeter wines tend to have a lower alcohol content which is also finding favour with consumers.”

Giesen Wines are growing their Riesling and Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc production.

“Demand for both these wines is high globally; the challenge is to meet this demand. But, as always, mother nature has the last say,” Theo said.

The Giesen The Brothers Marlborough Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc 2012, described as “lusciously sweet yet vibrant” has a RRP of $29.99.

Food Match: A quality blue cheese is always a good match with sweet wines, or chicken liver pate.
