NZ Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition
21-22 March, 2013, Wellington Town Hall
“The world is heading down a renewable electricity path, with 50% of new electricity generation in 2012 making use of
renewable energy sources,” says Eric Pyle, Chief Executive of the New Zealand Wind Energy Association, on the eve of the
annual NZ Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition. “The resources are there, they just need to be harnessed – both in New
Zealand and around the world.
The annual NZ Wind Energy Conference and Exhibition begins in Wellington tomorrow. It provides the opportunity to hear
from international experts in renewable energy.
Keynote speakers Steve Sawyer of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and Jeffrey Skeer of the International Renewable
Energy Agency (IRENA) will shed light on the ongoing international growth in wind energy, the trends in the costs of
renewable energy, and what policy measures enable wind. GWEC and IRENA recently released a report examining the policy
and regulatory measures for wind energy in 12 countries. The report identified that a clear political signal to develop
wind power and stability of the policy and regulatory framework are the two most important conditions needed to attract
investment.
Keynote speaker Hugh Outhred will provide insight into the potential for wind energy in New Zealand by sharing South
Australia’s experience, where wind now provides over 25% of the state’s electricity.
